iXblue Navigation Solutions for German and Norwegian Submarines

Marins M8 INS Will Interface With ORCCA CMS

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA) has selected iXblue to provide enhanced navigation capabilities for the U212CD submarines under construction for the German and Norwegian navies.

The six boats will rely on the company’s Marins M8 inertial navigation systems (INS), which will interface with the KTA Naval Systems (a joint venture between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems – TKMS – Atlas Elektronik and KDA) ORCCA combat management system (CMS). The Marins series is the highest grade INS in the company’s portfolio, and has been the object of constant innovation to gradually extend performance and accuracy, together with decisive advantages in the form of absolute discretion and superior reliability over time. These concrete benefits have persuaded a significant number of naval forces to opt for Marins solutions for their submarine fleets – including the Royal Navy and the Royal Swedish Navy.

The U212CD is a major programme for the European naval industry […] With the Marins series, TKMS and Kongsberg have not only chosen [high performance] navigation systems, but they will also benefit from well proven and ‘off-the shelf’ systems that will [contribute] to further reducing the risks and costs of the overall programme,” explained Enzo Aldrovandi, Regional Sales Manager. “We would like to thank them for their renewed trust on this impressive programme, and look forward to our ongoing collaboration with them.

iXblue solutions have already been selected for several German and Norwegian naval programmes, such as the F122 and F123 (Bremen– and Brandenburg-class) frigates and the Jan Mayen OPVs. Recent successes elsewhere include the latest French FDI, Spain’s F110 multi-mission frigates, USN Freedom-class LCS, Finland’s Squadron 2020 corvettes and Poland’s Kormoran II-class MCMVs.
