150+ Networked Simulators to be Supported

At ITEC 2018 in Stuttgart this week, Lockheed Martin announced it has signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the operation, maintenance, and technical support of the British Army’s Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT). The two-year interim support contract, worth approximately £10 million (€11 million), commenced on 1 March.

Based at two sites in the British Army Land Warfare Centre in Warminster and in Sennelager in Germany, CATT is the largest and most sophisticated battlefield simulation trainer in the world. Covering an area the size of three football pitches, it consists of over 150 networked simulators linked in a virtual and immersive training environment.

Soldiers are put through their paces in realistic scenarios involving vehicles, aircraft, soldiers and commanders as well as civilian population, insurgents and non-governmental organisations. CATT can simulate a combat area of over 10,000kmsq (3,800misq) and can accommodate over 400 troops training together as a battlegroup.
