Italy Extends Boeing Air Tanker MRO Support Contract

KC-767A Fleet Maintenance Deal to Run to December 2025

The Italian DAAA (Directorate for Air Armaments and Airworthiness) has extended Boeings contract to provide ongoing support to the Air Force’s four-strong KC-767A tanker fleet.

The deal will see Boeing continuing to provide what the company calls “tip to tail” support for the tankers through to the end of December 2025. The performance-based logistics agreement – which has been in place since 2011 – covers line and heavy maintenance, repair, overhaul, supply chain, engineering support, publications revisions, and both flight and maintenance training.

The fleet has served during Italian operations including the country’s contribution to Inherent Resolve (the US-led military mission against ISIS), Italy’s mission to evacuate Kabul, and during the country’s military support to the COVID-19 pandemic. The aircraft have flown more than 9,000 missions totalling over 36,000 flying hours, according to Boeing.

These aircraft are truly a strategic and highly visible Italian national asset,” Lt Gen Giuseppe Lupoli, Director of DAAA, stated. “Through the partnership with Boeing, the Italian Air Force aims at having continued high mission readiness and success throughout the 41-month extended PBL agreement period of performance.
