Israel Shipyards Will Adapt Basic Design to Specific Requirements
Israel Shipyards is to supply the Israeli Navy with four SHALDAG MK V vessels, adapted to the service’s unique configuration requirements, the company announced on 7 July.
Over the years, the service has used a variety of Israel Shipyards’ vessels for security missions ‒ including the SHALDAG MK III and the SA’AR 4 and SA’AR 4.5 fast attack missile vessels ‒ protecting Israel’s maritime borders. Recently, the Navy decided to procure advanced vessels that will empower an upgrade of capabilities for its routine security missions. To that end, Israel Shipyards will adapt the SHALDAG MK V appropriately.
The largest member of the SHALDAG-class, the MK V is a combat-proven, all-aluminum, light and swift vessel, driven by powerful waterjets, with a high payload capacity, providing exceptional manoeuvrability and seakeeping. Delivering a high firepower-to-displacement ratio, it was designed for naval security missions and is a recognised leader in the protection of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and littoral waters.
The vessel has a speed of above 40kts, can accelerate from zero to 40kts in less than one minute, has a turning diameter of 150m and a minimal draft ‒ enabling operation in shallow waters. Easy to operate and maintain, the SHALDAG MK V is equipped with advanced, lightweight weapon systems, navigation systems, and combat management systems.
