Israel and India Test MRSAM

All Systems Meet Test Goals

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and India’s Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested the MRSAM air defence system at a range in India last week, the organisations announced on 5 January.

Jointly developed by IAI and DRDO, MRSAM is an advanced air and missile defence system in use by the Indian and Israeli armed forces. The system includes an advanced phased array radar, appropriate C2 systems, mobile launchers and interceptors with an advanced RF seeker. Companies in both nations contributing to the programme include Rafael, TATA, BEL, L&T, BDL and many private vendors.

The flight test demonstrated a range of extreme reference scenarios, validating multiple system capabilities. As part of the test, the MRSAM interceptor was launched from a land-based mobile launcher, successfully striking the targets. All weapon system elements met the test goals.

[The] MRSAM air and missile defence system is a cutting-edge, innovative system, that once again has proven its advanced capabilities against a variety of threats. Every trial in an air defence system is a complex operational event and the COVID-19 limitations significantly increase the complexity. This trial is yet another testimonial to the strong partnership between IAI and India and the two nations,” commented IAI President and CEO, Boaz Levy.
