ISDEF 2017: Scram!

ITHPP offers a solution to microwave UAVs

At ISDEF 2017, French company ITHPP, a subsidiary of Alcen, is displaying its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Scrambler – Microwave Gun. “The UAV Scrambler has been on the market for the past year,” says Christophe Goepfert, business development director at ITHPP. “It aims at neutralising the threats of UAVs, something that would have been very useful to the two soldiers who were recently wounded in Iraq by an Islamic State (IS) UAV carrying explosives.”

The UAV Scrambler is a microwave rifle that disrupts all communication protocols for the UAV up to 300 meters away: “It disrupts the GPS, which gives the UAV its direction, its wi-fi connection to its user and its video, which feeds the information to the user,” continues Mr Goepfert. It comes with a multi-frequency range scrambler, a wide band antenna on the barrel of the rifle, and a day and night long-range multifunction binocular that can detect up to 500meters. The rifle is connected to a battery, which can last up to 8h, and which is carried by the user in a backpack that weighs 10 kilogrammes.

We have already sold the system to three different countries, in particular for airport protection,” concludes Mr Goepfert. “We are now working with a customer to develop a more complex version with a radar, which will not be portable but will have a longer range and will complement the current Scrambler.
