ISDEF 2017: Data Gathering on the Fly

SCG Canada offers handheld device that facilitates data gathering without compromising foresensic integrity

At ISDEF 2017, MONS sat down with Brent Salo, president of SCG Canada, to discuss the Covert Forensic Imaging Device (CFID): “This solution was designed for frontline military personnel, Special Forces, law intelligence personnel and intelligence services, to provide them with a handheld, user-friendly device for collecting time-sensitive intelligence information.”

The CFID is a handheld battery powered, forensic collection and imaging device that can extract information from USB keys, SD cards and SIM cards, as well as from mobile phones regardless of whether they run on iOS or on Android. The user can plug in/insert one or multiple devices at once, such as a USB and a SIM card, and gather a forensic image of the content. “In other words, the user can gather information without compromising the forensic integrity of the USB or the card, therefore not compromising their use in a court of law,” Mr Salo continues. The CFID can later be connected to a laptop to download all the information gathered during the mission and stored within its internal 128GB Solid State Drive.

This solution allows frontline military personnel and other units carrying out time-sensitive issues to gather the information from USBs, etc, without being IT specialists,” concludes Mr Salo. The latest version of the CFID has now been on the market for a year and a half and is in use in various NATO countries.
