Exclusive Prime Contractor for Future Romanian Orders
Airbus Helicopters has signed an agreement with IAR that will make the Romanian company the exclusive prime contractor for any future order for the H215M heavy twin engine helicopter from its Ministry of Defence.
Airbus Helicopters has been present in Romania for over fifteen years; its customer centre sees about 75% of its turnover coming from exports and the company also has a 10,000sqm factory based in Brasov, inaugurated in 2016 and which will house production of the H215 in Romania.
“We are proud to have signed this general agreement that results from almost 50 years of cooperation between IAR and Airbus Helicopters,” Neculai Banea, General Director of IAR, stated. “IAR has built around 360 helicopters under license thanks to this successful partnership with Airbus Helicopters and we are looking forward to customising and supporting the H215M.”
“This agreement is an important milestone in the construction of a European defence partnership. We are convinced that this relationship will last another 50 years and that the H215M will correspond perfectly to the needs of the Romanian armies,” Olivier Michalon, Senior Vice President and Head of Europe for Airbus Helicopters, commented.
