Ingalls Shipbuilding Engineering Contract for LPD-17 Class

Contract Valued at up to $214 Million

Ingalls Shipbuilding has been awarded a contract, valued at up to $213.9 million (€177.2 million) for life-cycle engineering and support services on the US Navy’s SAN ANTONIO-class (LPD-17) amphibious transport docks, the company announced on 26 February.

This contract enables Ingalls to continue providing LPD support and services that are critical to the sustainment of the Navy’s amphibious fleet,” Ingalls Shipbuilding President, Brian Cuccias, explained.

Services to be provided will include engineering change management; systems engineering and integration; supply chain management; training for new shipboard systems; and execution of industrial post-delivery availabilities.

The SAN ANTONIO-class vessels are 684ft long, with a beam of 105ft and displacement of approx. 25,000t: their principal mission is to deploy the combat and support elements of Marine expeditionary units, carrying up to 800 troops and with the capability of transporting and disembarking landing craft air cushion or conventional landing craft, augmented by helicopters or VTOL aircraft such as the MV-22. They will support amphibious assault, special operations and expeditionary warfare missions till mid-century.
