Primary and Secondary Radar, IFF with Dual Interrogation Modes
Following a rigorous international competitive tender, Indra has won a contract from the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) to supply and install improved air traffic management (ATM) and surveillance systems at the Air Force’s main air bases, the company announced on 23 July.
The systems, to be delivered over four years, will help manage aircraft movements and improve the efficiency of the Air Force’s missions. The company will provide S-band primary radars incorporating multiple modes of operation and electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) based on frequency agility techniques. These will work in combination with secondary radars that include identification friend or foe (IFF) capabilities with dual civil/military interrogation modes.
Indra will install ATM systems in the approach tower centres at each air base. Military controllers will gain precision in identifying and precisely locating each aircraft, providing pilots with better in approach, landing and take-off manoeuvres.
Indra collaborate with Korean companies with the objective of ensuring workload for local industry. The contract consolidates Indra’s position in Korea, after completing modernization of Seoul’s air traffic monitoring and management system in 2018. Prior to this, the company had already installed radars at Jeju Island airport, enhancing safety of some of the busiest routes in the world.
