Indra to Lead Three EDIDP Projects

Participates in Two More as Partner

Indra is to lead three of the main projects financed under the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP) and will participate as a partner in two more, the Madrid-based company announced on 19 June. In total, the projects will generate €175 million and will be funded with over €107 million from the EC. Leading more projects than any other single company in this first EDIDP call, Indra considers itself well-established for the second phase of the European Defence Fund (EDF), which is expected to reach annual revenues of some €1.25 billion during the period 2021-2027.

Coupled with strong support from the Ministry of Defence for Spanish industry, Spain has emerged as a key player in development of the new European Defence construct. The five projects in which Indra is now involved include the participation of companies from more than 20 nations.

The three EDIDP projects that Indra will lead in this call are centered around the development of command and control (C2) capabilities, electronic defence and cybersecurity, three areas in which Indra has extensive experience and a leading position in technological terms internationally.

  • The European Strategic Command and Control (ESC2) system will give the EU essential C2 capabilities so that all European countries can act in unison and coordinate with allies in international peacekeeping missions. It will be a fully interoperable system with the C2 structures and systems of EU nations, NATO and civil agencies.
  • The Responsive Electronic Attack for Cooperative Task (REACT) programme will enable EU national air forces to conduct operations in anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) conditions. These electronic defence systems will be deployed in different configurations, to suit existing aircraft and to be integrated into future combat aircraft, both manned and unmanned.
  • The European Cyber Situational Awareness Platform (ECYSAP) will offer integrated, real-time imaging of cyber threats to which a defence system might be subjected, enabling immediate reaction capabilities and providing smart support tools for decision-making.

The other two projects that Indra will participate in as a partner are:

  • The anti-collision European system for unmanned aircraft (EUDAAS), which will increase flight safety and will enable the integration of UAS into the airspace. This is a key capability to enable the operation of large military UAS without interfering with civil air traffic – particularly with EuroMALE, currently in development.
  • Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) based on GALILEO (GEODE) will develop an array of antennas, military receivers and security modules for satellite navigation using the GALILEO constellation signals. The devices will be deployed in airborne, land and naval platforms and the time synchronisation systems of multiple nations, providing a common underlying structure that will ensure secure operation of the system.
