Spanish firm expects to conclude submarine SATCOM deliveries by December 2019.
Indra has told MONS that it expects to complete deliveries of new Ku-band (14 gigahertz/GHz uplink/10.9-12.75GHz downlink) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) terminals to the Marine (German Navy) by December 2019.
These terminals will equip the navy’s two new ‘Type-212A’ class conventional hunter-killer submarines with the first terminal being delivered by December 2018, and the final terminal one year later. The provision of Ku-band SATCOM terminals to these boats will allow them to use the German Armed Forces’ new Heinrich Hertz communications satellite which is expected to be launched in 2021.
Open source reports note that the provision of Ku-band communications on this spacecraft should allow the German government to replace some of its commercially-sourced Ku-band communications. In addition to Ku-band SATCOM, this spacecraft will also carry a Ka-band (26.5-40GHz uplink/18-20GHz downlink) communications payload.
