Indonesian Air Force Selects Collins Avionics Upgrade For C-130Hs

FLIGHT2 System Nearing 3,000 Installations

Collins Aerospace has announced that its FLIGHT2 avionics suite has been selected by the Indonesian Air Force to upgrade its C-130H transport aircraft. The work will be carried out by Indonesian-based MRO house GMF AeroAsia. Neither the number of aircraft to be upgraded nor the timescale for the work have been made public.

FLIGHT2 addresses a wide range of obsolescence issues the venerable platform faces and replaces legacy cockpit systems with new multifunction displays. Navigation and communications upgrades are also included, as well as surveillance systems that are becoming mandatory around the world, such as Mode S transponder and an ADS-B Out capability. Indonesia uses its HERCULES fleet for a wide variety of missions across the nation’s 17,000 islands, and needs the aircraft to meet regulatory criteria applicable to operations in civilian airspace.

We worked closely with GMF and the Indonesian Air Force to leverage our FLIGHT2 mobility mission application architecture, and to tailor the system to meet all the specific mission requirements,” Dave Schreck, VP/GM for Military Avionics and Helicopters at Collins Aerospace, stated. “MMA enables customers to select from a superset of off-the-shelf capabilities, which really maximizes what we can provide for any given budget. In this case, we created a solution that is custom fit to the needs of the Indonesian Air Force.

Collins says that more than 370 C-130s in 16 countries have received the FLIGHT2 upgrade, and claims more C-130s have received their upgrade than any rival system. More than 2,900 iterations of FLIGHT2 have been installed on aircraft worldwide.
