NORINCO Focuses on SR5 Universal Artillery Rocket Launcher (UARL)
China North Industries Company (NORINCO) is focusing attention on its SR5 Universal Artillery Rocket Launcher (UARL) at INDODEFENCE 2016 in Jakarta this week.
Based on a 6×6 heavy truck chassis, the SR5 features a two-pod capability, each containing 20 122mm unguided artillery rockets of six 220mm munitions. For greater tactical flexibility, the vehicle can mount one of each pod, thus significantly widening local commanders’ options for fire support.
The system also has the capability to fire guided rockets: the FIRE DRAGON 40 122mm rocket has both INS and GPS systems, contributing to a circular error probability (CEP) of under 25m at ranges from 20-40km; the KING DRAGON 60 220mm rocket uses laser terminal guidance at ranges from 20-70km and the company claims a CEP of 3m.
Confirmation of any foreign customers has not been made by NORINCO or the Chinese authorities, but MT understands that Bahrain has a number of SR% in service, though the use of guided rockets with the system has not been confirmed.
