Robust Designs, Flexible Capabilities
Yesterday, IMDEX ASIA 2017 saw the kick-off of the 3th International Naval Engineering Conference @ IMDEX Asia 2017 (INEC@IMDEX Asia 2017). Themed “Robust Designs, Flexible Capabilities,” the keynote address was given by the Permanent Secretary Defence Development, Ng Chee Khern.
The conference reflected upon the importance of seeking new and novel approaches to fully exploit the opportunities that disruptive technologies will offer, and covered issues such as the multiplying effect, flexible platforms, underwater technology and effective support solutions.
Plenary speakers included Rear Admiral (RADM) Andreas Olsson, Special Advisor to the Swedish Ministry of Defence; Tan Peng Yam, Chief Executive at DSTA; RADM (LH) De Candia Pasquale, Head of Ship Design and Combat Systems Department of the Italian Navy; Chew Men Leong, Deputy President & President (Defence Business) at Singapore Technologies Marine (ST Marine) and Professor Chris Hodge, President IMarEST. Technical sessions covered presentations on Modern Integrated Port and Maritime Security Sound & Sea Technology; Leveraging data analytics to enchance the maritime security of Singapore; Designing The Support – Designing the LMV; Mission Modularity for Republic of Singapore Navy’s Littoral Mission Vessel and A New Class of Patrol Vessel – Yeow Xian Ching, ST Marine.
There was also an exclusive tour to the LMV for the conference delegates this year.
On the sidelines of IMDEX Asia it was announced that on 14 May RADM Lai Chung Han had signed an Implementing Arrangement for mutual logistics support for naval ship visits with his Thai counterpart, ADM Na Arreenich, as well as signed a Memorandum of Understanding with regard to maritime information-sharing with the Philippine Navy’s Flag Officer-in-Command VADM Ronald Joseph Mercado, including the assignment of a PN Liaison Officer to the RSN’s Information Fusion Centre.
