What and Where at All Times

At the Holland stand at IMDEX2017, Floor Groeneveldt, Sales Manager Naval for RH MARINE, spoke to MONS about RH MARINE’s Electronic Incident Board (EIB): “Electronic incident reporting normally requires crewmen to report these incidents on a large map pinned to the wall in the damage control room as well as the fore and aft section posts; this is particularly time consuming because it hinges upon communication between the different posts. The EIB seeks to address this issue.”

The EIB is a touch screen linked to the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), which allows automatic plotting of smoke, fire and flooding – through the sensors on board – as well as manual plotting of other damage events. Each ship requires three EIBs: one in the damage control room and one for each section post – fore and aft. “The screens are synchronised between all damage stations, which minimises voice communication and workloads during stressful situations, therefore reducing the time required for updating information related to incidents,” Groeneveldt, says.

The EIB is a result of a close cooperation between RH MARINE and the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNlN), which has been providing valuable operational knowledge. “The EIB has been in use on board the RNlN offshore patrol vessels, joint support ship and landing platform docks for the past two years, and we are planning to fit it onto RNN air defence command frigates, ‘De Zeven Provinciën’ class, from 2019,” Groeneveldt concludes.
