CAMELEON LG is Light, Compact and Rugged
ECA Group has extended its range of unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) in adding a further variant of the CAMELON – examples of which have served with French forces in Afghanistan and Mali and are also in service in Belgium and Hungary – the CAMELEON LG.
Developed to meet new operational requirements, CAMELEON LG is light, compact and particularly rugged, according to the company. It is designed to be carried in a backpack in addition to a soldier’s standard operational equipment without imposing an overload. CAMELEON LG is a real partner, increasing the capacity of a deployed unit without having any effect on tactical speed or manoeuvre.
Lightweight (12 kg) but versatile (payload 15 kg) the CAMELEON LG can be equipped with a manipulator arm (lifting capacity of 4.5 kg) or sensors such as laser range finders, radiological or chemical sensors and thermal cameras, meeting mission needs with a radius of action up to 500m meters and the capacity to climb 45° slopes. Endurance for operations is four hours, with an ability to remain in standby mode for up to 15.
Resistant to dust, water and shocks, it can be thrown during its deployment to limit the vulnerability of the operator or to reach inaccessible places such as windows, balconies, low walls, terraces, caves, or cliffs. This ruggedness is also an asset during transport; CAMELEON LG can be carried in all types of military vehicles without any special container.
Operational within three minutes, deployment is simple and rapid, offering all the responsiveness required of a tactical mission. CAMELON LG’s high-resolution cameras, light weight, small size, agility and off-road capabilities make it an ideal robot for inspecting terrain, culverts, homes, caches or the undersides of vehicles in the search for IEDs, suspicious packages or hidden triggering devices.
It is extremely intuitive of use and requires minimal training. The ergonomics of the touch screen, controls and buttons have been enhanced so that the operator can easily control the robot, interpret received images and data, direct it and manipulate the arm and sensors. Its auto-diagnostic system for maintenance helps reduce the operator’s workload. The control station is also resistant to shocks, water and dust.
