Nearly Even Split Local and International Suppliers
The Tawazun Council announced the signature, on behalf of the UAE MoD, of deals with an aggregate value of AED4.5 billion (US$1.23 billion) on the first day of IDEX and NAVDEX 2023 in Abu Dhabi. (Note: conversion at the 20 February rate of US$1/AED3.67)
Six contracts totalling AED2.3 billion were signed with local companies and five, totalling AED2.2 billion, with international firms.
Local companies
- Halcon (an Edge Group company) – AED2.14 billion for Thunder P3 precision-guided munitions;
- Maplin Marine Systems & Services – AED78 million for vessel technical support services;
- Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar LLC – AED45 million for technical support services for Caterpillar vehicles;
- Atlas Telecom – AED26 million for SR Hawk radars and portable radars;
- Al Hamra Trades – AED8 million for procurement and maintenance services for inspection devices and explosives detectors;
- Romco International – AED4 million for a mine clearance solution.
International companies
- PT Pal (Indonesia) – AED1.5 billion for a multi-mission vessel
- Thales LAS (France) – AED421 million for GM403 radars
- Alliant Techsystems (USA) – AED202 million for ammunition procurement
- MBDA (France) – AED92million for missile technical Support services
- Rohde & Schwarz (Germany) – AED3 million for Communications Systems technical Support
