First Goal is Laser-Based C-UAS Capability
SIGN4L, MBDA and CILAS signed an MoU at IDEX 2021 in Abu Dhabi on 22 February that commits the three companies to explore cooperation in development of high-energy laser weapon systems.
SIGN4L is a regional leader in agile, reliable, adaptive EW and intelligence solutions and will pursue collaboration with the other two signatory organisations as part of an advanced counter-UAS (C-UAS) strategy. The agreement, which follows on from the bilateral agreement between France and Tawazun in 2019, commits each of the partners to identify potential axes of cooperation in several domains related to high-energy lasers, including operational analysis and systems architecture.
“For the first time, MBDA is engaging in an ambitious cooperation outside Western Europe regarding high-energy laser[s]. Collaboration in this field is of a mutual interest, since MBDA and CILAS’s capabilities and experience working on high-energy laser activities for more than 30 years is complementary to SIGN4L’s strong knowledge and expertise regarding them,” commented MBDA CEO, Eric Béranger.
