IDEX 2021: Iveco Highlighting MTV and SUPERAV Land

Family of Multi-Role Vehicles Continues to Grow

Iveco Defence Vehicles is focusing attention on its Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV) and Light Multi-Role Vehicle (LMV) at IDEX 2021 in Abu Dhabi this week.

The MTV, presented for the first time at IDEX, joins the company’s family of multi-role platforms, including the LMV 1, in service with 14 nations, and Medium Protected Vehicle (MPV), adopted by Italy and Lebanon. The company’s range of multi-role vehicles now includes vehicles from 7-19t: the Mult-role Utility Vehicle (MUV), LMV 1 and 2, MPV and the brand-new MTV, with a gross vehicle weight of 12t, filling a pressing capability gap.

MTV is modular and versatile, with a common base for all its variants, both protected and unprotected and efficiently adapted to multiple missions and users. The common elements include the 6-cylinder 6.7l diesel engine, providing 207kW of power and 1,000Nm of torque, an automated transmission and permanent 4×4 configuration, with three fully lockable differentials. Protection is also a fundamental feature, leveraging experience gained with the LMV and MPV platforms. MTV variants, short and long cab and monocoque, are manufactured in ballistic steel and benefit from an add-on steel protection kit to increase ballistic and blast protection levels.

Soft- and hard-top versions accommodate 2+2 crewing, while the pick-up has a crew of two. An ambulance variant carries two lying or four sitting casualties, while police and security variants carry up to 2+6. MTV also benefits from state-of-the-art digital technologies, with CANBUS J1939, ready for C4I systems, in combination with EMI/EMC to standards MIL-STD 461 and AECTP 500. The Dutch MoD has selected MTV, including 120 fitted with an RCWS, for a programme in which Iveco is already contracted to deliver 1,185 vehicles.

The new SUPERAV Land 8×8 was inspired by the SUPERAV 8×8 amphibious armoured vehicle, which BAE Systems and Iveco Defence Vehicles are now collaborating on for the USMC’s ACV programme. The SUPERAV Land has been independently developed by Iveco, with the aim of providing a modular vehicle for land operations with higher protection level and survivability, while providing high-level and thoroughly tested systems reliability.

Featuring a new-generation Iveco 6-cylinder multifuel engine, developing 700hp and 3,000Nm torque, coupled with an automatic 7-speed transmission with retarder and a proprietary H-type driveline, the SUPERAV Land provides unique performance in terms of speed and acceleration, offering best-in-class mobility on all terrains.

The suspended interior seats host up to eight troops, with an additional three positions for crew. The ideal combination of power, protection and payload offers improved survivability and force protection over currently-fielded systems. Its modular reinforced roof is designed to maximise compatibility with various unmanned turrets, allowing uncompromised protection for the team and ensuring higher internal volumes and ergonomics.
