JAIS 6×6 & RIV Unveiled
At IDEX 2017, NIMR released two new vehicles:
The Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) is designed to be the next-generation vehicle for Special Operations Forces (SOF). “We listened carefully to the special operations community and interoperated their combat experience into the design and development of this light and powerful 4×4 rapid intervention vehicle,” NIMR’s CEO Dr. Fahad Saif Harhara, explained.
The RIV is equipped with under-body blast protection and modular armour packs for ballistic protection, and can be transported inside a Boeing CH-47 CHINOOK. The typical mission for the RIV is conceived using speed and mobility as the advantage on any terrain, with high speed and armed with weapons up to 12.7 milimetres. The payload is 1,500kg and the official range is documented with 1,000 kilometres. It can carry up to four soldiers. As options there is a Battery Management System (BMS), add-on ballistic kit, Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), Run Flat Inserts (RFI), various weapon systems, C4I command & control, tactical communications solutions, winches, a 6-seater option and a payload growth control.
The second vehicle is the JAIS 6×6, the lasts generation of a MRAP. It is the best protected (mines, IEDs, ballistic missiles) vehicle from NIMR. And the vehicle is designed for easy maintenance and servicing. The commonality with the JAIS 4×4 is 90%. It can take a payload of 5,200kg and offer a 700km range. Crew is 2+9.
