IDEX 2017: Mercedes-Benz Customised Portfolio

Mercedes-Benz is presenting a broad portfolio of products at IDEX 2017.
Most of the vehicles on display have their origins in large-scale production programmes for civil applications, customised specifically for the requirements of specialised users such as the military or emergency services. They offer considerable flexibility, with a range of payloads from 0.7-75t for logistical and tactical missions.

On display is a total of five vehicles and two chassis, with a variety of add-on equipment and conversions, showcasing vehicles as operated by both defence forces and government agencies, primarily in regions with dry, hot and sandy environments. For example, the G-Class is represented by a 6×6 high-capacity vehicle with an enhanced payload and also by an on-road 4×4 chassis which can be used by systems sellers as the basis for highly mobile vehicles developed in-house. The 6×6 include a double cabin and a maximum payload of 3t for thre chassis only or 1.5t for the vehicle as displayed. It was designed for a wide range of users from Special Operations Forces to logistics units.

Other vehicles on display include:
ACTROS 4661 AS 8×8 semitrailer tractor with dual cable winch systemZETROS 3643 AS/6×6/48 semitrailer tractor with dual cable winch systemZETROS 3643 A/6×6/45 with crewcab, self-recovery winch and torsion-free platform body from EmplSpecial Chassis FGA 14.5SPRINTER 516 CDI 4×2 with Hartmann “Mobile Scanner” bodyG-Class Rolling Chassis 4x4G-Class 6×6.

Based on long-standing, well-proven assemblies and components from high volume series production, these vehicles are tailor-made to customer requirements and offer traditional Mercedes-Benz qualities such as reliability, robustness, efficiency and safety. They underscore the company’s expertise of in development, production and worldwide customer service for its trucks, vans and off-road vehicles. The vehicles and variants on display are striking examples of a product portfolio designed for logistical, military and, where required, protected vehicles.

The Mercedes-Benz SPRINTER 516 CDI Mobile Scanner can support military and law enforcement users at mobile checkpoints or events. In terms of its complexity and the integration of a range of scanner technologies, the vehicle capabilities of the SPRINTER 516 CDI 4×2 respond to the current increased security requirements at regional and international levels. Applications include the deployment of special forces in unexpected emergency situations or at large events. This scanner-based capability is being presented here for the first time in mobile form: previously it was only available in static applications. The solution can be adapted to an almost infinite degree, with even the most demanding of special requirements taken into account and can be mission ready with a setup time of only two minutes. Flexible but standardised at the same time, Mercedes-Benz claims any procurement requirement can be covered by a single SPRINTER solution. For greater mobility, the same concept can be applied to a UNIMOG.

Totally new is the LC-G concept study, a very light chassis. A rolling chassis for immediate deployment or for further customisation, it is based on the combat-proven G-class and offers variable payloads, multiple wheelbases, worldwide service and spare parts. The LC-G system includes the Euro 5/3 642 DE 30 LA diesel engine (6-cylinder, 135 kW/400 Nm) with a 2,850 mm wheelbase and a GVW of 3,500-5,400 kg.
