IDET 2021: Tatra Trucks Unveils BISON Recovery Vehicle

Several Already Sold to Middle East Operators

At IDET 2021 in Brno last week, Tatra Trucks – a member of the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) – debuted the BISON 6×6 heavy-duty recovery vehicle.

Based on the proven TATRA FORCE T815-7MOR34 6×6 heavy utility truck, the BISON has been developed in cooperation with the Austrian company EMPL Fahrzeugwerk, a leading manufacturer in the field, providing a fully hydraulic superstructure along with the recovery equipment. The vehicle has been specifically designed for recovery and transport of mired, overturned or otherwise damaged heavy vehicles (including trucks, trailers, armoured vehicles or buses), and features two hydraulic outriggers in the back. It features a Cummins ISM 500 engine, has a maximum weight of 36t, a road range of 500km and a maximum recovery and transport capacity – in various operational modes – that extends to between 10-20 tonnes. Its armoured cabin has a crew of two and features a roof hatch.

According to the company, it has already been able to sell several platforms of this type to undisclosed customers in the Middle East. There is also the TATRA T815-7 KWZT-1 MAMUT (Mammoth), an earlier Polonized version of the recovery vehicle, developed and financed in cooperation with the Polish MoD. However, that platform is based on a heavier 8×8 TATRA military truck chasis.
