IDEF 2023: Spotlight on Turkey’s Growing Capabilities

Increasing Regional and Global Importance

IDEF 2023 – the 16th International Defence Industry Fair – will open its doors on 9 May 2023 at the Tüyap Fairs Convention and Congress Centre in Istanbul. Organised by Tüyap Fairs and Exhibitions Organisation, Inc., IDEF ’23 will again be hosted by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MND), supported by the Defence Industry Agency (DIA).

IDEF has grown to become a leader in the region and one of the most important exhibitions showcasing regional and global capabilities. Turkey’s growing defence industrial capabilities, in terms of both technology and manufacturing infrastructure, coupled with international cooperation, partnerships and far-reaching global successes by Turkish defence industry organisations have combined to make important contributions to the increasing importance of IDEF.

Opened by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan two years ago, IDEF ’21 hosted 163 delegations, comprising over 600 officials and high-level experts from 81 countries and two international organizations. Over 1,200 defence and security companies from 53 countries exhibited their capabilities and technologies to around 70,000 professionals from 94 countries. Special meeting facilities dedicated to procurement officials – a feature that has become synonymous with IDEF – saw over 4,000 scheduled meetings and stand visits by professionals from government and industry with their counterparts from the MoND, DIA, Turkey’s Ministry of the Interior, the Turkish General Staff and Force Commands, as well as the Gendarmerie, Coast Guard and Security General Directorate (SGD). Some 100 signing ceremonies and contract awards occured at IDEF ’21.

With its 120,000sqm covered and 20,000sqm open-air exhibition grounds, its integrated exhibition, accommodation and a multitude of conference capabilities within a single complex, the Tüyap Fair, Convention and Congress Centre provides for the ultimate business environment.

IDEF ‘23 is ready to welcome defence and security professionals from around the world in Istanbul, 9-12 May 2023.
