IDEF 2017: ROKETSAN’s Anti-Tank Missile Family Moving Forward

Production Under Way, Integration Efforts Continue
ROKETSAN is about to finalise its long- and medium-range anti-tank missile system programmes – UMTAS and OMTAS respectively – which have both been developed in line with Turkish armed forces requirements. The two missiles are being developed as part of a wider product family, which will enable ROKETSAN to offer flexible capability geared towards satisfying the requirements of the modern battlefield.

A laser guided version of UMTAS (L-UMTAS) is already in service with the Turkish armed forces, while a variant with an imaging IR seeker has now reached the end of the production qualification phase. A number of successful helicopter test firings have also been completed. Serial production is scheduled to commence shortly and integration trials continue for both armoured vehicles and naval platforms.

Production qualification for OMTAS has been completed and serial production is now in process under a contract signed between the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries and FNSS in 2016.

“The point is, anti-tank missiles are not just about eliminating the ever-developing armour technologies; now you need to be capable of meeting all kinds of emerging threats. In addition to their anti-tank capabilities, which are their main mission, the UMTAS and OMTAS were designed to be effective against any other ground or surface threats. We will be witnessing such implementations frequently in the coming period,” Selçuk Yasar, President and CEO of ROKETSAN, observed.
