Unmanned Ground Vehicle for Multiple Missions
Katmerciler chose IDEF 2017 in Istanbul this week to show its new Uzaktan Kumandali Atis Platform (UKAP) – a remote controlled unmanned weapons and utility platform. UKAP has been developed as a universal unmanned platform to fulfil a variety of missions, ranging from battlefield fire support for light dismounted forces to logistics supply, bringing ammunition, water or medical supplies, for example, to the front line – perhaps even to provide casualty evacuation facilities.
The example on show at IDEF is fitted with an Aselsan SARP remote weapon station, which offers capabilities including fire-on-the-move, day/night imaging and automatic target tracking. Weapon options include 7.62 or 12.7mm automatic weapons or a 40mm grenade launcher.
UKAP is currently on offer exclusively to the Turkish armed forces, but the company sees potential in the export market – especially given the fact that it could be applied to non-military functions with minimal modifications. Overall vehicle length is stated as 2m, width as 1.8m and height 1 metre. Curb weight is 1.1 tonnes.
