IAI’s SCORPIUS T Threat Simulator Debuts in Blue Flag

AESA-based EW Threat Simulator for Improved Force Readiness

The importance of the Blue Flag exercise currently under way in Israel (17-28 October) has already been highlighted in Arie Egozi’s report from Tel Aviv earlier today (see Blue Flag Air Exercise Under Way in Israel | MOENCH PUBLISHING GROUP (monch.com). For the first time, the exercise has included the use of Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) SCORPIUS T system – an AESA EW threat simulator that emulates modern, signal-dense, multi-threat assets for aircrew and operator training. Debuting at Blue Flag 2021, SCORPIUS T is compatible with 5th-generation fighters, special mission and fighter aircraft. The technology uses a range of small transmitter/receiver units, rather than a single mechanical antenna, to provide a mobile training unit capable of simulating a range of combat scenarios. It is also the first system to combine IAI/ELTA‘s AESA technology with EW systems to simulate multiple land-based threats in training exercises.

SCORPIUS T can replicate the exact RF signature of any system, version or mode, to simulate full engagement cycles. The system supports multiple simulation beams simultaneously with multiple enemy SAMs and RF systems, and can simulate double- and triple-digit threats. The threat database can be updated to mirror emerging threats based on relevant data. SCORPIUS T can synchronise with other simulators, ADMI or C2 centres. The system includes a post-mission debriefing function to analyse and improve performance.

The Blue Flag exercise brings together some of the strongest air forces in the world for comprehensive and rigorous training and synchronisation. IAI understands that practice makes perfect, which is why the company invests significantly in R&D for engineering training systems that simulate real-world combat scenarios to improve force readiness. The new SCORPIUS T is unlike any other training system available, providing the user with a mobile combat scenario generator to enable a full range of training events at minimal time and cost. In addition, IAI’s flagship OPAL system continues to assist forces in synchronising data in real time, while EHUD trains the world’s most advanced aircraft to face the most complex tactical situations.
