IAI Air Defence Missile for Israeli Corvettes
Following Elbit’s contract announcement regarding EW suites for the Israeli Navy’s SA’AR-6 corvettes, reported by MONCh on 10 August (https://monch.com/mpg/news/ew-c4i-channel/3965-saar6ew.html), Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) today announced it will be providing these vessels with the BARAK-9 integrated air and missile defence system.
Already operational with the Israeli navy and with the Indian navy and air force, BARAK-8 provides broad aerial and point defence against a wide range of threats from air, sea or land, integrating several advanced systems including digital radar, command and control, smart launchers, interceptors with modern FR seekers, datalinks and system-wide connectivity.
“BARAK-8 is one of IAI’s leading systems and a growth engine for IAI in sales to its customers. The new deal adds to several BARAK-8 contracts entered over the past few years with total value of more than $5 billion, which is another feather in the system’s glorious cap,” enthused IAI President & CEO, Joseph Weiss.
“The procurement of [the] BARAK-8 system for the SA’AR-6 corvettes will expand the operational capabilities of the Israeli navy, including the defence of Israel’s territorial and exclusive economic zone. With land and naval modules, the system provides a complete response to a wide range of threats and is developed to work with other systems. BARAK-8 is a proud member of the exclusive club that hosts Israel’s most successful global military developments,” added Executive Vice President and General Manager of IAI’s Systems, Missiles & Space Group, Boaz Levi.
