The company will provide two remote observation satellites as part of the Azersky-2 programme

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has agreed with Azercosmos, the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, that it will provide two remote observation satellites as part of the Azersky-2 programme.

The deal concerns IAI’s cutting-edge multi-spectral electro-optical satellites with a resolution better than 0.5 meters, a long-life span and high imaging performance.

Besides the satellites, IAI will provide Azercosmos with technology and knowledge for their construction and operation. The Azersky -2 programme came after communications with the previous satellite, Azersky, developed by Airbus Defence and Space, were lost in April 2023.

IAI and Azercosmos are committed to successfully implementing the Azersky-2 programme and look forward to mutually beneficial cooperation in future space programs. The transaction is expected to bring about developments in the field of satellite technology.

I consider our cooperation to be an important step in the development of human capital and space technologies in the country.”

Azerbaijan is currently involved in a new chapter of a long-standing conflict with Armenia. Recent conflicts, such as the Ukrainian war, have proved the importance of space assets in modern warfare.
