IAI Unveils ADA-O

Addresses GPS Jamming to Ensure GPS for Land Platforms

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has introduced ADA-O, a further development in the ADA family, which addresses GPS jammers to ensure GPS availability for land platforms, the company announced on 4 March.

The system can be readily integrated in a range of platforms, providing a unique operational response to help communications, navigation and command and control (C2) systems. Easily installed and integrated, it serves end-users on armoured vehicles, artillery, C2 centres and communications vehicles.

In addition, IAI recently won a contract, estimated at tens of millions of dollars, to provide ADA systems to an undisclosed Asian-Pacific nation for use on airborne platforms. The win adds to other recent accomplishments by IAI’s MLM division, including an agreement with Honeywell for co-development of a jam-resistant Embedded GPS INS system (EGI).

“ADA and its new derivative ADA-O for land platforms, is an important complement for every platform that uses GNSS receivers in general and GPS in particular and a vital tool for every modern army. Understanding the unique operational needs of land systems allowed us to perform the required modifications on IAI’s airborne anti-jam system so as to provide an advanced technological solution to the operational challenges facing the forces in the different platforms,” stated General Manager and Executive VP of IAI Systems, Missiles and Space Group, Boaz Levy.

In early 2017, IAI won an Israeli Ministry of Defense tender for integration of anti-jamming systems on one of the key platforms of the Israeli Air Force, providing the service with a comprehensive solution based on a multi-element antenna array, implementing controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA) technology. The system’s integration allows the avionic systems that rely on satellite navigation to persist in their mission despite jamming or disruption attempts with GPS jammers or other systems designed to block satellite navigation.

Most navigation, communication and EW systems depend on the continuous availability of GNSS/GPS satellites, but the majority of avionics systems are not equipped with anti-jam systems and are vulnerable to disruption by low-power jamming emitters. The system developed by IAI supports multiple GNSS constellations, features an advanced architecture and employs a range of advanced digital signal processing methods. The system’s versatility makes it ideal for integration in a range of platforms including combat aircraft and helicopters, unmanned aircraft, land platforms such as tanks and armored vehicles, marine platforms and guided munitions.
