I/ITSEC 2018: Barco Introduces FL40

Scalable simulation projector developed for demanding air, sea and ground simulations

At I/ITSEC, Barco is introducing its FL40 series, true solid-state projectors, using the latest in HLD and LED illumination technology, combining performance and extreme reliability with a low TCO, even in the most demanding environments.

Developed by Barco’s experienced high-performance simulation projector engineers, the FL40 series delivers razor-sharp images with great contrast and exceptional colour fidelity, guaranteed for nonstop 24/7 operation.

Offered in native WUXGA and WQXGA resolution, the performance of the FL40 WQXGA version can be extended up to 4K resolution (3,840×2,400) via Barco’s proprietary Single Step Processing (SSP) technology, a feature of the Barco PULSE unified software platform. “Thanks to SSP in Barco PULSE, the FL40 delivers high-resolution images faster and with lower latency than any other competing technology,” the company boasts. “No matter whether pitching, rolling, or bouncing, or for training in the air, at sea, or on land, the FL40’s solid aluminum baseplate—itself acting as a mounting plate—coupled with an array of mounting points in the front and on the top, makes this projector solid as rock and perfectly suited for use on motion platforms.”

The FL40 uses a proven DLP sealed optical engine and the latest solid-state HLD LED illumination. Simulator operators can benefit from reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) with extended maintenance cycles and no lamp changes or colour adjustments for up to 50,000 hours. Barco’s Constant Light Output (CLO) functionality ensures total predictability in linear brightness performance over the life of the projector. Additional protection is available when using new, intelligent, high-efficiency air filters for installations in dusty and polluted environments.

Extending the FL40 series is the FS40, which offers NVG stimulation through a dedicated IR LED channel, in addition to the standard features of the FL40. Dual-input support for simultaneous IR and RGB images, up to WQXGA at 120Hz resolution, allows for individual image adjustments and intensity in both daytime and the nighttime scenarios, with NVG stimulation for a fully immersive training experience at any time of day.

The FL40 series is the next exciting entry into the most scalable simulation projector portfolio in the industry,” Dave Fluegeman, Vice President of Barco’s simulation division, explains. “Built on Barco PULSE and the proven optical designs the industry has come to know us for, the FL40 series provides system integrators with another high-quality, high-performance, simulation-specific option which they can trust to perform, backed up by a dedicated support and engineering team.”

We have been working with Barco for more than 15 years and are thrilled that our innovative HLD LED technology will be part of Barco’s solid state projector portfolio,” said Neşet Irşık, General Manager of Digital Projection Lighting at Signify (former Philips Lighting). “The launch of the powerful Barco FL40 projector proves the unique benefits of HLD LED technology in very demanding markets like training and simulation. It offers a perfect combination of high brightness, energy efficiency and colour performance. HLD LED is a reliable solid-state solution that will lead the future of projection lighting.”
