I/ITSEC 2017: VT MAK Releases RadarFX 1.3

Simulating Doppler and SAR

Earlier this month, VT MAK announced the release of RadarFX 1.3!

RadarFX Server is a software application that generates physics-based SAR and ISAR images of the simulated world, and serves them to client applications such as flight simulators or ground control stations. This system allows the user to develop training applications for reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting that benefit from the characteristics of SAR images.

Synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) is a form of radar that is used to create two- or three-dimensional images of objects, such as landscapes.

This Feature Release adds two new capabilities: Doppler offset and defocussing for moving ground targets; and continuous capture mode for Strip SAR.

When Doppler effects are enabled, moving entities will display distinct visual effects that show the operator how fast, and in what direction, the entity is moving. Consistent with real-world SAR images, moving targets in VT MAK’s simulated SAR images will be offset in from their actual locations (and from their shadows) in azimuth (cross-range) when they have a downrange velocity. In addition, moving targets will appear characteristically “blurred” or defocussed based on both the downrange and cross-range components of velocity, and on their downrange acceleration.

I/ITSEC is showcasing the future of innovation across defences and www.monch.com/mpg/news/iitsec17.html brings together key developments from the show. For more information please see MILITARY TECHNOLOGY #12/2017, available on booth #257; and frequently check back for more NEWS FROM THE FLOOR.
