I/ITSEC 2016: KNDS Launches Digital Sandbox

FINDMP First Joint Branded Product
KNDS, the combination of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Nexter, launhed the FINDMP digital sandbox at I/ITSEC 2016 in Orlando this week. Development was internally funded in order to replace the existing physical sandbox facilities with a digital construct, within the context of the French SCORPION digitalisation programme.

FINDMP is the first branded product for KNDS and brings the expertise and capabilities of the two companies together. As a tool for both mission planning and rehearsal and leadership/command and staff training, the system provides a Digital Sand Box (DSB) for command levels from platoon up to brigade level and a Tactical Analysis System (TAS) for platoon and company level utility. Running both capabilities simultaneously provides users with a simulation of friendly forces manoeuvre which can be recorded and shared between the two applications.

Used in a command post, a mobile command vehicle or in dismounted mode during operations, FINDMP displays terrain in 3D, determines and rationalises intervisibility issues and provides users with graphic indications of effective weapon ranges. In mission planning mode, geospecific data may not be immediately or easily accessible to on-the-spot commanders, in which case the KMW Rapid Modelling of Geospecific Databases (RMGB) comes into play. Using high resolution passive aerial imagery and dramatically reducing processing time, RMGB renders terrain models at a 5cm resolution dynamically and accurately, automating the process and providing a solution ready for dynamic simulation.

The combination of FINDMP and RMGB has been demonstrated to military customers, according to the company, using a Heligoland database to showcase the ability to rapidly integrate and make available a powerful, precise and accurate sandbox tool with minimal preparation and processing.
