I/ITSEC 2016: CAE Completes Dothan Training Centre

Fixed-Wing Flight Training to Begin Q1/2017
CAE announced on 29 November at I/ITSEC 2016 in Orlando that it has completed construction and received the occupancy certificate for its new Dothan Training Centre at the Dotan Regional Airport in Alabama. CAE and subcontractor personnel will transition to the Centre over the next two months.

The Centre, to support the US Army’s Fixed-Wing Flight Training programme, features classrooms, an integrated training system learning environment and infrastructure including student and instructor lounges, a fitness centre and cafeteria. The first training device to be delivered – a Grob G120TP flight training device – has already been installed and is ready for training. The company is also completing build of C-12 KING AIR full flight simulators (FFS) for the Centre: they will begin arriving in the first quarter of 2017. The first two to arrive will be CAE 7000XR Series C-12 FFS.

Referred to as ‘motherships,’ the 7000XRs feature the company’s roll-on/roll-off (RORO) cockpit design, enabling various aircraft to be replicated in the FFS. Four such cockpits are being designed to emulate various configurations of the KING AIR in US Army and USAF service. When two are installed, the others can be connected to a docking station and used as Level-6 equivalent flight training devices.

The Centre will also feature live training provided by CAE and its subcontractors, including APS, SDI and Navigator. Six new Grob G120TP aircraft will be used and a US Army-owned fleet of 10 C-12U KING AIRs will be operated by CAE instructors to deliver focused live flying training. The Army Fixed-Wing Flight Training programme provides all training for experienced rotary-wing pilots transitioning to the Army’s fleet of over 350 fixed-wing aircraft and provides Army recurrent training and USAF annual training for C-12 pilots. Anticipated throughput at Dothan is for more than 600 pilots annually.

The completion of our new Dothan Training Centre ahead of schedule and less than nine months after groundbreaking is a major milestone. We are now in the final stages of preparing to welcome our first class of Army students when we will begin providing the Army with a modern, flexible and cost-effective training programme specifically designed for fixed-wing aviators,” said Ray Duquette, President and General Manager, CAE USA.
