BiomedTech to Provide Hypoxia Trainer for RAAF

Cockpit Procedural Trainer at New Air Academy

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) has selected BiomedTech Australia to provide hypoxia training systems to the new Air Academy at East Sale.

Hypoxia – the condition in which the brain is deprived of oxygen – has been linked to a number of fatal aircraft accidents in the past and is considered to be one of the biggest dangers in aviation. The Biomedtech Go2Altitude solution will deliver a two-seat cockpit procedural trainer (CPT) and an integrated six-seat classroom to deliver hypoxia training that will include identification and recognition of symptoms – the critically important aspect of being able to overcome the condition.

As well as general awareness and recognition education, the integrated CPT will deliver training specifically configured for the PC-21 ground trainers recently supplied by Lockheed Martin. Required gases are generated within the system using a proprietary molecular sieve-based air-separation technology.

A suite of neurocognitive tests will facilitate the educational component and the system can interface quickly and easily with a flight simulator so that entire crews or even aircraft formations can train simultaneously.
