Fischer Connectors’ Solutions for High-Performance Connectivity
Last month, Hexadrone unveiled the TUNDRA, its first serial drone and the first ruggedised, modular multi-rotor UAS to be built in France. TUNDRA uses Fischer Connectors’ UltiMate and MiniMax connectivity solutions for optimal operations in harsh environments.
Winner of the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2018 in its beta version, TUNDRA has been designed and manufactured as a development hub for integrators, featuring numerous interfaces for integration of accessories, sensors and other current or future modules. This enables the vehicle to be adapted to custom features and rapid changes, helping to combat obsolescence. Interchangeable easy to remove arms, give the vehicle a payload of up to 4kg for a 30min flight duration – excellent performance in its class. The waterproof drone can be assembled in the field in under a minute.
“With this multifunctional, modular tool carrier, our customers are opening up the field of possibilities in their collaborative projects and lowering their development costs when they adapt the drone to users’ new needs and new technologies on the market. This is not possible with most of today’s drones, which are designed for a single type of use and quickly become obsolete due to rapid technological advances. In response to obsolescence, we’ve opted for adaptability and durability,” explained Hexadrone Chairman, Alexandre Labesse.
To the requirements for modularity, reliability, durability, ruggedness and ease of use, Hexadrone selected Fischer Connectors’ high-performance, ultra-robust, push-pull connectivity solutions, which optimise the high-density miniaturisation of on-board electronics, such as a companion computer, a storage module, a security key or a lidar that the TUNDRA can be fitted with for specific aerial remote-sensing missions.
“We’ve been supporting the TUNDRA’s innovations from the outset […] Since connectivity lies at the heart of this rugged UAV, our high-performance solutions proposed in this modular offering cover the whole range of integrators’ technical requirements in terms of robustness and reliability, miniaturization, sealing up to IP68, and data transmission,” commented Guy Lacroix, Director of Fischer Connectors France.
