Fills Long-Range Coastal Surveillance Role
Hensoldt UK announced on 14 July that the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (SBGS) has selected the company’s SBS-900 X-band SharpEye radar for its long-range coastal surveillance requirement.
These shore-based radars were originally specifically developed by specialist Kelvin Hughes (now HENSOLDT UK) to meet the stringent operational requirements of port, harbour and river traffic operators as well as government agencies responsible for the protection of coastal and littoral zones. Working with local integrator Telekonta, the mast-mounted SBS-900 family was selected to meet SBGS requirements for detection of small targets at long ranges.
Adrian Pilbeam, Head of Sales at HENSOLDT UK, stated “The decision by the Lithuanian SBGS to select the SBS-900 demonstrates the confidence they have in the complete integrated radar solution that HENSOLDT UK and Telekonta provided.” The solution’s advantage is that the coastal radar does not require an air-conditioned enclosure at the top of the mast. Compared to competitor solutions, the SBS-900 thus comes at reduced system integration and infrastructure costs.
Dovydas Gedaminskas, Director General at Telekonta, commented “The SBS-900 radars are a significant step to enhance the coastal surveillance system for the SBGS […] with high performance and low through-life costs.”
