€75 Million for 188 Vehicle Sets – Delivery Complete by 2027
HENSOLDT is to supply advanced optronic solutions for the Dutch armed forces’ FENNEK armoured vehicles, under a contract placed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) valued at almost €75 million, the company announced on 28 April. The scope of the order includes 188 BAA II NL observation and reconnaissance systems, as well as a number of spare parts.
“Our optronic solutions combine sensors from different technologies to provide armoured vehicle crews with an excellent situational awareness,” commented HENSOLDT Optronics CEO, Andreas Hülle. “In the field, this capability is essential to fulfil the mission and ensure the protection of the crews.”
The BAA II NL is the logical further development of the BAA II JFST, already in use in the Bundeswehr’s Joint Fire Support Team (JFST). The external dimensions have remained the same and menu navigation has also been left unchanged, in order to keep minimise the required training effort. The contract also calls for adjustments to the YellowKite camera, which will be optimised to become a day/near-infrared (NIR) camera with colour vision, and will receive an NIR cut filter. A digital outlet is also provided.
HENSOLDT will deliver the systems to KMW, which will handle integration of the BAA II NL and its C2 system into the FENNEK reconnaissance vehicles. Deliveries of qualification sets will begin in autumn 2022, with series deliveries commencing in 2023 and scheduled for completion by 2027.
