HENSOLDT Optronics celebrates topping-out ceremony in Oberkochen

The new building aims to be sustainable and innovative

HENSOLDT Optronics celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its new plant in Oberkochen (Germany) on 1 December, the company has said.

With the new building, the group aims to respond to German and NATO’s growing requests for high-performance military equipment and the ever-increasing demand from the semiconductor industry, interested in HENSOLDT Optronics’ high-precision optronic measuring devices. The investment in the new building is in the low three-digit million range, and the company plans to move into the new site in 2025.

“Our customers not only rely on our technologies, but also on our commitment, our reliability and our innovative strength. They rely on us to make a tireless contribution to safety”, said HENSOLDT CEO Thomas Müller.

Using geothermal probes, heat pumps and photovoltaic systems on the roof, the new site will achieve 70 per cent self-sufficiency and meet the “KfW 40” standard (which is a type of sustainability class), with the aim to gain sustainability certification from a renowned institute. The interior design follows the “New Work” principle and is adapted to the current working environment. HENSOLDT’s future-oriented design promotes the individual and organisational success of its employees.

According to HENSOLDT Chief of Human Resources Lars Immisch: “In today’s business world, cross-functional collaboration is becoming increasingly important. This new location is therefore not just a physical space for us, but a symbol of the increasing importance of cross-functional and process-integrated collaboration. […] With the HENSOLDT Campus, we are offering our employees the opportunity to be successful together in one place with short distances. More than 850 HENSOLDTians will work here hand in hand and with all other locations in the future.”

“This building will not just be a building, but a high-tech campus where innovative ideas, collaboration and creativity will flourish. Flexible expansion options for the building structure and internal layout will enable further growth in the long term”, concluded Tanya Altmann, Head of the Optronics & Land Solutions division. “It is very important to us to involve all our employees, who enjoy coming here every day, in the interior concept from the very beginning.”

HENSOLDT takes its responsibility as a sustainable, local business very seriously and has set ambitious goals for emissions avoidance, resource-conserving business, and responsible corporate governance, the company said.
