First Customer Delivery by End of 2019
Hensoldt announced on 2 April that it has developed a new product which leads the next generation of military identification-friend-or-foe (IFF) systems on modern warships.
The NESIS 4000 exploits active electronically scanning array (AESA) radar technology, giving it superior performance compared to conventional systems. The avoidance of a rotating antenna at the highest point of a ship, by using a non-rotating, ring-shaped fixed-array antenna in a lower part of the ship’s integrated mast, reduces the radar cross-section and infrared signature of the vessel significantly. Therefore, the new system improves ship survivability and provides cost-saving flexibility in ship-design. In addition, the AESA technology increases radar performance and significantly reduces update rates. Compared to conventional systems, targets and eventual threats can be identified much faster and the range in a 360° area around the ship is extended to a 200 nm radius.
Hensoldt’s MSSR 2000 I secondary radar is already deployed for military IFF by the naval forces of Germany, France, the UK, Australia, Chile, Norway and Finland. The first NESIS 4000 will be delivered to the launch customer by end of this year.
