Major potential: training requirement of the Malaysian Army Air Corps
During DSA 2018, held 16-19 April in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Helang Flying Academy, a partnership between Malaysian company Major Flagship and France’s Defence Conseil International (DCI), promoted its civil and military helicopter training courses which uses the Airbus EC120B helicopter and conducted out of the academy’s facility at Senai International Airport in the state of Johor, Malaysia. Helang Flying Academy has been recognized as approved training organization by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
Major (Ret.) Angeline Leong, Head of Sales, told MONCh that in regard to military helicopter training, the company was looking at both South East Asia and the Middle East with one major potential being the training requirement of the Malaysian Army Air Corps which currently operates 10 AW109 helicopters and 4 S-61 NURI helicopters transferred from the Royal Malaysian Airforce and will be receiving soon an additional eight ex-RMAF S-61 NURIs and six MD530G light attack helicopters. “If you look at how rapidly the Army Air Corps will expand with the influx of helicopters, they will need to look for training solutions outside their force to keep pace with the pilot and aircrew requirements created by this expansion so we see a strong opportunity there,” said Mrs Leong, adding that the company is also looking at other opportunities as well in South East Asia and the Middle East.
Along with pilot training, the military training courses Helang Flying Academy provides includes Search and Rescue, NVG training, Air Navigator, Hoist Operator, Rescue Swimmer, Crew Resource Management and Safety Management Systems with syllabus and contents adaptable to specific customer requirements.
