Havelsan’s VTS Used in NATO’s Maritime Security Exercise

System Integrated Satellite and AIS Data from Multiple Sources

Havelsan’s Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) software has been successfully used for the first time in a NATO Maritime Security Exercise, the company announced on 27 December.

The NATO Maritime Security Centre of Excellence announced that, for the first time in the history of the exercise, satellite images obtained by private space-based earth observation companies were transferred to and displayed on the VTS. Live Automatic Identification System (AIS) traces were also integrated into the VTS and displayed.

The VTS was developed for the Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Services, where it successfully monitors, organises and manages all ship traffic movements in the straits, by maintaining interaction with the ships at the highest level. It allows uninterrupted operational management from any location through web-based technologies, and has been developed with advanced technologies to ensure user an friendly end-to-end solution. The resulting operational sustainability provides for an effective user experience, even where vessel activity is congested.

90% of global trade is conducted by sea, making services such as Havelsan’s VTS even more crucial to safe, secure operational management. (Photo: Havelsan)
