Colour Imaging is a Factor
Global optronics specialist Photonis detailed its detector philosophy associated with its proven NOCTURN imaging sensors at GPEC 2018. Rick Wildschut, Business Development Manager Digital Vision, and Casper Decker, Commercial Director Digital Vision, informed MONS that the company’s NOCTURN cameras likely fill the gap left by existing products in this category for one main reason: the output of their patented KAMELEON imaging sensor is full colour even in very dark conditions. When fitted with this digital CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor, the small-size, ultra-compact cameras are ideally suited for the variety of both military and public security applications, including handheld observation devices, digital sights, vehicle situational awareness devices, and UAV cameras.
MONS learned that the CMOS pixel architecture offers the best compromise between high resolution, inherent signal-to-noise ratio, and intra-scene dynamic range, all of which representing key features of military-grade, ruggedised imaging systems.
