GPEC 2018: TIGR shows its teeth

Roboteam’s new TIGR UGV in service supporting counter-terror operations

Roboteam’s TIGR Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) is in service with the Israeli special forces, MONS has learned during the GPEC law enforcement equipment exhibition being held in Frankfurt between 20th and 22nd February.

The TIGR has been in service since early this year and incorporated many of the lessons learned from operations with the company’s MTGR UGV which has been extensively used by US-led coalition forces in the Afghan and Iraqi theatres, and also by the Israeli Army. The TIGR can be operated by a single person, although needs two people to move the UGV, which can be easily accommodated into the back of a station wagon. With up to eight hours’ operation possible with the vehicle’s battery, the TIGR includes a microphone and optronics and has a highly modular design, allowing the user to integrate new payloads onto the robot. The vehicle’s manipulator arm can lift up to 20 kilograms (40 pounds).

Officials from the company told MONS that the firm will now be watching closely how the robot is used with a view to further developing this, and other UGV products in the future.
