GDELS and Rheinmetall present Bridge-laying System ANACONDA mounted on RMMV’s 8X8 HX2

The integration will provide dry-gap bridge capability for medium/heavyweight forces

General Dynamics European Land Systems – Bridge Systems and Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles have presented the ANACONDA tactical bridge-laying system mounted on a high mobility 8×8 HX2 carrier vehicle on 30 August, during the 5th User Forum Armament and Utilisation RÜ.NET 2023 held in Koblenz (Germany).

Integrating the bridge, the laying mechanism and the vehicle – well-known in-service products among Armed Forces around the globe – is meant to allow dry-gap bridge capability for medium- and heavyweight forces. In addition, mounting ANACONDA Bridges on Rheinmetall’s HX family of tactical trucks will provide substantial advantages in terms of interoperability, training, service and supply of spare parts, contributing to the system’s low lifecycle costs. This move is particularly smart for increased mobility of tactical bridge-laying systems, as the speed of the RMMV HX2 can reach 90 km/h, while it reduces overall costs compared to tracked systems.

The ANACONDA, in service since 1973, has been built for over 240 Armies worldwide and can be crossed by all current NATO Main Battle Tanks. Furthermore, the bridge can be launched and retrieved from many types of wheeled and tracked platforms. Similarly, the RMMV’s HX military trucks are among the world’s most widely used, with 16,000 vehicles.
