Saab signs contract with FMV for GÄLVE
On 30 June, Saab announced that it had signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the life extension of two Swedish Marines’ GÄLVE-class corvettes, HMS GÄLVE and HMS SUNDSVALL. The work will be carried out during the period of 2017-2020, and includes a general inspection of the ships after 72 months of service as well as a fitting of a new, advanced combat system.
The work will be carried out within Saab’s two Business Areas, Kockums and Surveillance, in Karlskrona and in Järfälla.
“We have a long experience in building and maintaining corvettes in steel, aluminium and in composite,” says Gunnar Wieslander, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Kockums. “The ships have good operational capabilities, high availability, long service life, and low operating costs. With a new, advanced combat system, the ships will be modernised to meet the customer’s demands.”
