FMS for F-15s to Qatar Approved

72 Aircraft Plus Support – $21.1 billion

On 17 November, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered notification to Congress that the State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of F-15 aircraft, plus associated weapon systems and support, to Qatar.

The Qatar Emiri Air Force has requested 72 F-15QA aircraft, plus ground support and training facilities (including US-based Lead-In Fighter Training for the aircraft), weapons and associated spares in a deal valued at US$21.1 billion.

Boeing would act as prime contractor for the sale and a dozen or more other major US contractors would play major roles in administering the contract, requiring some 150 contractor personnel and 24 additional US government personnel to deploy to the region, according to DSCA. The notification delivered to Congress is a procedural requirement and does not indicate any sale has yet been agreed: it sets the scene for detailed negotiations.
