FLIR Systems Introduces New Tactical Thermal Imagers

Powerful Thermal Handhelds, Rifle Scopes, and Clip-Ons

FLIR Systems recently introduced three product families including thermal handhelds, weapon sights, and clip-ons featuring FLIR Systems’ latest compact, uncooled thermal camera core, FLIR BOSON. These new thermal imagers allow users to detect heat and see in complete darkness, and when combined with precision optics, deliver great imaging and functionality for the tactical and outdoor enthusiast markets.

Each product family offers multiple thermal resolution options, multiple lens options (each product includes one lens configuration), and features vivid, high-definition 1080p colour displays. Additional common features for all models include user controlled imaging palettes and image enhancement filters, onboard recording of video and JPEG images, digital compass, digital inclinometer and patent-pending, high-visibility iconology and graphic overlays. Additionally, the units offer USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones with a free FLIR app. Among these new products, FLIR introduced three ruggedised, ergonomic handheld thermal imager models:

  • The FLIR HELIOS thermal bi-ocular features a full-coverage eyepiece, and intraocular adjustability with 50mm, 75mm, or 100mm lens options.
  • FLIR PROMETHEUS thermal monocular available with lens options of 50mm, 75mm, or 100mm.
  • The FLIR Q14 thermal mini monocular is the lightest and most compact, full-featured FLIR thermal monocular available. With a thermal resolution of 640×480 and a fixed 19mm lens, the versatile FLIR Q14 offers multiple mounting options for helmets, goggles, and weapons.

FLIR has also expanded its field-proven, rifle-mounted ThermoSight R-Series line of commercial thermal scopes with three new models:

  • FLIR ThermoSight RM offers a thermal resolution of 320×240 with a 19mm lens and 640×480 with a 25mm lens.
  • FLIR ThermoSight RL features thermal resolutions of 320×240 and 640×480 with a choice of a 50mm or 100mm lens.
  • FLIR ThermoSight RX has a thermal resolution of 640×480 and a choice of a 50mm or 100mm lens.

Finally, FLIR has introduced a new line of clip-on thermal imagers that enhance the capabilities of a user’s existing daylight rifle scope. The ThermoSight C-series clip-on imagers mount in front of standard daylight optics for a rapid transition to thermal in lowlight conditions with no change in cheek weld or trigger reach, allowing for continued use of existing ballistic reticles in the day scope:

  • FLIR ThermoSight C compact clip-on thermal rifle sight is available with thermal resolutions of 320×240 and 640×480 and a 25mm lens.
  • FLIR ThermoSight CM/CL long-range, clip-on thermal rifle sights with a choice of a 50mm lens and a resolution of 320×240 or 640×480, or a 75mm lens with a resolution of 640×480.

This new collection of thermal weapon sights and handheld imagers provide users with market-leading image acuity, size, weight, battery stamina and features,” FLIR President and CEO Andy Teich, said. “With a nearly 50-year heritage of bringing combat-proven thermal solutions to the frontlines, this new wave of products resulting from our acquisition of Armasight last year, solidifies FLIR’s position as the leader in thermal optics for the tactical and outdoor markets.”

FLIR Systems furthermore recently launched five new thermal imaging cameras, including two new third generation FLIR ONE thermal camera attachments for smartphones, two new dual sensor thermal cameras for drones (unmanned aerial vehicles – UAV), and a ruggedised compact thermal camera for home and building inspectors. All five products feature FLIR LEPTON, the company’s thermal microcamera core, and FLIR’s patented multispectral dynamic imaging (MSX) technology, which dramatically improves image quality and readability by dynamically embossing high-fidelity, visible-light details onto the thermal imagery.

The third generation FLIR ONE builds upon the FLIR ONE legacy, providing a powerful, introductory-level thermal camera that attaches to iOS or Android devices. Featuring the new OneFit adjustable-height connector, including a USB-C version for Android, the third generation FLIR ONE easily attaches to more smartphones without needing to remove one’s phone case. The all-new FLIR ONE Pro is the most advanced FLIR ONE ever developed. Featuring a ruggedised design, the new OneFit adjustable-height connector, and a more powerful set of imaging features for the job site, the FLIR ONE Pro is ideal for professionals who use thermal imaging for their work needs, which could be a soldier or law enforcement officer. Featuring MSX and VividIR advanced image processing, the FLIR ONE Pro offers amazing image quality and detail. Professional features include multiple spot temperature meters and one-touch reporting capabilities to quickly interpret and share results. Fully integrated with the FLIR Tools app for in-depth data analysis, the FLIR ONE Pro delivers a professional-grade thermal camera for workers who require greater thermal capabilities from their mobile devices.

The FLIR Duo multi-sensor camera features FLIR’s LEPTON thermal microcamera core, a high-definition (HD) 1080p visible camera, and FLIR’s patented MSX technology. The FLIR Duo offers versatile onboard recording to a micro SD card and real-time remote control of camera functions and can be mounted to any airframe capable of holding the most popular action cameras. Operators can switch between the FLIR Duo’s thermal and visible cameras in-flight or view both in a picture-in-picture mode. The FLIR Duo R adds accurate temperature measurement capabilities for, e.g. public safety use cases.

FLIR Systems is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of sensor systems that enhance perception and awareness. FLIR’s advanced thermal imaging and threat detection systems are used for a wide variety of imaging, thermography, and security applications, including airborne and ground-based surveillance, condition monitoring, research and development, manufacturing process control, search and rescue, drug interdiction, navigation, transportation safety, border and maritime patrol, environmental monitoring, and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives (CBRNE) detection.
