€13.6 Million Contract, Delivery Complete by October 2022
The Finnish Defence Forces Logistic Command has ordered an undisclosed quantity of laser sights and image intensifiers (II) from Senop Oy – a member of the Patria Group – the company announced on 7 July. Valued at over €13.6 million, the order will be completed by October next year.
The order calls for delivery of soldier lasers, tactical lasers and additional quantities of the M40 monocular night vision goggle (NVG) image intensifiers. The Soldier’s Laser Sight M20 is a lightweight, robust and easy-to-use device designed to cater for high recoil and demanding use applications; the Tactical Laser M20 is a multi-functional laser sight incorporating visible and IR lasers and an IR illuminator; and the M40 monocular is one of the lightest, highest-performing NVG currently available, using high-precision glass optics and composite materials to achieve performance and ease of use.
Senop laser sights and II systems are developed in close co-operation with the Finnish Defence Forces, and intensive field tests have been conducted in demanding conditions since 2019. Energy management is a key requirement, especially in arctic conditions. All these devices can operate both AA- and CCR123 batteries, while the NVG M40 Monocular can also be equipped with an external power supply to increase the operating hours.
“In this programme, the end user of the equipment – the soldier – has been at the centre,” Aki Korhonen, Senop Managing Director, points out. “For this reason, field tests and feedback from the test team have played a major role in the development. Our engineers have supported operations on the field, thus completing ergonomics and durability. The co-operation with FDF has been excellent.”
Senop builds new capabilities by tailoring solutions to specific customer requirements. The company’s defence and security portfolio consist ofs high-performance image intensifiers, night sights, intelligent thermal sights, handheld target acquisition and observation systems, vehicle camera systems, hyperspectral cameras, and multi-purpose container-based platform solutions.
