System To Be Installed at NAMFI Range on Crete
The Greek Air Force has chosen Leonardo‘s Kronos Grand Mobile High Power (GM HP) radar to defend the NATO Missile Fire Installation (NAMFI) range on the island of Crete.
Installation of the multifunctional C-band AESA system will take place “by 2024“, according to Leonardo. The GM HP is the latest iteration of the Kronos family of systems. The company says more than 40 are in use with various customers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific and South America.
Leonardo says the GM HP increases performance via integration of more powerful transmit-receive modules than on previous Kronos variants. The system has been designed for both land and naval use, and is available in fixed or mobile configurations. A new L-band sensor, known as the Kronos Power Shield, has been developed for the system, specifically to defend against long-range anti tactical ballistic missiles.
